Characters: Narrator/Middle child (Author), Anita, Mother
Plot: Anitas mother loves to knit. But as she grew older, she became weak and unable to knit. She felt a sense of uselessness in her life and so, Anita thought of asking her to knit a shawl for her wedding. When her older sister knew about it, she thought it was a silly thing to do because their mother is very old and seems incapable to do it anymore. But Anita was persistent to think that through knitting, it will help their mother regain her purpose in life. Happy and inspired, Anitas mother made her a shawl and it proved how much a mother can unconditionally love her children despite the passing years.
Theme: A mothers love is unconditional. We find our purpose in life by doing the things we are passionate about. The story talks about compassion towards one another and the passions we can develop as an individual. It also focuses the great and unceasing love of a mother to her children. Physical frailties will never stop someone to express love and appreciation.
